How to time contractions with Birth Companion
Learn how to record a contraction and tell its duration apart from the break or the start-to-start interval.
Mark the start and end
Start the timer when a contraction begins and stop it when it ends. The log keeps the start time and duration. If someone is with you, they can tap the controls while you focus on how you feel.
Read the two kinds of intervals
Duration is the time from the start to the end of one contraction. The break is from its end to the next start. If you need the start-to-start interval, compare the two start times in the log. That interval includes the first contraction and the break.
Leave a note for later
After timing, add any observations you want to remember, such as intensity or what helped. Export a PDF if you want to share the record. For questions about what the timing means for you, ask your care team.
