How to time labour contractions with Birth Companion

Record a contraction from start to finish and understand what each interval in your log represents.

Record the start and finish

Start the timer when a contraction begins and stop it when it ends. The log saves the start time and duration. If you have a support person with you, they can use the timer while you focus on how you feel.

Distinguish the duration from the break

Duration is the time from the beginning to the end of one contraction. The break runs from that end to the start of the next contraction. The start-to-start interval is the difference between two start times. It includes the first contraction and the break that follows.

Keep a note of what mattered

After timing, add the intensity, what you felt or what helped. Export a PDF summary if you want to share the log. Ask your midwife or health care team about timing questions specific to you.
