How to time contractions during labour with Birth Companion

Learn how to log a contraction and read the duration, the break and the start-to-start interval.

Mark the start and finish

Start the timer at the beginning of a contraction and stop it when the contraction finishes. The log saves the start time and duration. If you’re with a birth partner, they can operate the timer while you focus on how you’re feeling.

Read the times in your log

The duration is measured from the start to the finish of one contraction. The break is from its finish to the next start. To find the start-to-start interval, compare the two start times in the log. That interval includes the first contraction and the break afterwards.

Save what you want to remember

Note how strong the contraction felt and what helped. You can export a PDF summary if you’d like to share your record. For questions about what the timings mean for you, speak to your midwife or maternity team.
